 Accommodation

Our four self-catering cottages are booked for two nights (Friday and Saturday ). Guests can check in from 4pm on Friday with departure by 6pm Sunday.

We ask that you let us have a full list of guest names and also of those guests staying in each cottage.  Due to our insurance, Health and Safety and Fire regulations it is imperative that only the named guests stay in the designated cottages/rooms.

We also work closely with the local village pub, The Crown Inn, which is just a 3 minute walk up the lane, it has four lovely bed and breakfast rooms sleeping up to 11.

Marquees

The marquee lawn overlooks the lake and you are free to choose the size and style you would like directly with our approved contractor, Mudway Workman. Please contact them directly for a quote.  For approximately 100 guests prices start from around £3,500 + VAT and all marquees must have a wooden floor throughout.

For a Saturday the marquee will go up on the Thursday before and you have until midday on Sunday to clear the marquee ready for dismantling.  You are welcome on site from 10.00am on Friday morning to decorate your marquee.  Any use of the marquee the week after the wedding for charity or local functions is at the discretion of Upper Court, if not taken down by Monday.

If you plan to use your marquee on the Sunday afternoon please let us know in advance.

St Nicholas Church

The pretty parish church of St Nicholas is connected to the garden at Upper Court by a latch gate. Non-residents can marry by arrangement. Couples will be expected to meet the underlying Church of England rules about eligibility for marrying in St Nicholas church (which are called “qualifying connections”).

Please have a look at this website: http://www.yourchurchwedding.org/youre-welcome/more-churches-to-choose-from.aspx

Please contact: Richard Bennet, Church Warden, rpbennet@waitrose.com. There is also a lovely Catholic church in the village, St Benet’s. 01386 725286.

Catering

Country House Occasions – Anne Worrallo-Hickman and her team offer the finest catering, first class service and meticulous event planning, with the highest credentials ensuring you a flawless, memorable and relaxed occasion. More details here: http://www.countryhouseoccasions.co.uk

Wesley House is also another good option. Details can be found here http://wesleyhouse.co.uk/weddings-and-events/

Music

Due to our village location, all music must cease at 11.30pm.  You then have until midnight for guests not staying at Upper Court to safely depart.   Prior to your arrival we ask you to nominate a person(s) to help oversee the closing down of the marquee and departure of guests at the end of the night.  Music must be kept at an acceptable level at all times and we ask that you make your band/disco aware of this prior to the evening of your wedding.

The electricity supply to the marquee must be switched off no later than midnight so please be aware that the area will not be lit after midnight.  Upper Court guests can, of course, continue the party in the function room.

Confetti

Natural flower petals are fine on the grass (but not outside Manor front door). No paper confetti please.

Entrance Gates

We suggest the front gates are closed on the morning of the wedding so that everyone uses the back gates. This leaves the front of the house clear of cars for photographs.  The car park by the back gates is clearly signed and floodlit.  Please provide us with any laminated signs you would put outside the gates for your guests, ie name of bride and groom.  The front gates are opened for the arrival of the bride and groom.

Health and Safety

The boat on the lake is not to be used unless by special arrangement for the bride and groom. The swimming pool will be closed during the wedding celebrations. The areas around the cottages are lit.

 Fireworks & Sky Lanterns

Due to wildlife and bird conservation around the lake, fireworks and sky lanterns are not allowed anywhere in the grounds.

 Security Deposit

A security deposit of £1,000 is payable one week prior to your wedding day.  If any damage is incurred on the property or inside the accommodation we will inform you after the event and you will naturally be liable for this which will then be deducted from the security deposit.  Please let your guests know you may have to pay this so they take care.  Please make sure everything is returned to the correct cottage if moved and garden furniture put back where it belongs.

Conditions of Booking & Cancellation Policy

All bookings are subject to our Conditions of Booking which are available on our website, on request and will be sent to you with confirmation of your booking.  We strongly recommend that you take the time to read this and note that the full amount is non-refundable. Cancellation insurance is provided by Bookings Protect.

 Taxi’s

Guests not staying at Upper Court should pre-book taxis to leave no later than midnight. It’s essential to pre-book taxis early, since the weekends do get busy for local taxi operators.

Monarch Taxis and Mini Buses: 01684 592929

 Children

Guests must take full responsibility for any children invited to Upper Court due to the risks of the water. Do ask if you would like us to recommend a nanny.

Dogs

We regret dogs are not allowed with the exception of guide dogs.

Storage

We ask for everything to be collected by the end of the week following the wedding. We regret we are unable to keep anything beyond this time.

Parking & Access

There is plenty of parking on site for your guests.  We have a gravel road for contractors to the marquee site to ensure they do not drive on the grass.

Disposal of Rubbish

We provide a skip for disposal of rubbish, including catering waste.

Upper Court Pottery Studio

Please note that the pottery studio at Upper Court is run as a separate business and may be in use during your stay. If you’d like to book a pottery class for your guests, please visit www.kitestudios.org and contact info@kitestudios.org.
